Since Korganizer just nuked all of my calendar events and to do lists, some of which I was lucky enough to have backed up, does anyone know any other tool I can use? I've tried to restore my calendar with Kontact, but it's not working at all. Time to move on to something that doesn't play Drunken Russian Roulette with my data. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I had (almost) the same problems. Not lost data, but the impossibility of using Kmail2/Akonadi with DavMail to access my work Exchange server.
Now I use Mozilla Thunderbird with the Lightning plugin for calendar support (CalDAV) and with the SOgO plugin for CardDav support. It just works wonderfull! Every thing works as expected. Exchange mail thorough DavMail (IMAP over OWA), Gmail mail, normal IMAP accounts and since I'm migrating all my personal data to my own cloud (Owncloud.org) also works fine with Owncloud Calendar and Contacts. Also mail searching works as expected, it can archive by year/month folders, it's fast, and so far I had no problems with it. It would be now very, very hard to convince me again to try Kmail2... |

Thanks. I think I looked at Thunderbird once and didn't like the UI, but that was a while ago. I'll install it and take a look at it. Thanks so much! How well does it integrate with KDE?

For me it integrates well, but with it's plugin extensions you probably can twiddle the looks and the behaviour of it at you're liking. I think it supports the Persona skins, so you can make it look anything that you like. Regarding the interface, I think it's just fine either on the mail view as on the calendar view. |

Thanks! I just installed it. I'll give it a try and see how I like it.

xmanmonk, thanks for the question. It is one I am researching as well.
SyncMaster, can you tell if there is a way for the appointments, task, etc in Linghting to show up in the calendar in the digital clock in the panel? Thanks.

I couldn't quite get Thunderbird to do what I needed in a convenient way, so I went back to Evolution. Okie2003, you asked about getting appointments and tasks to show up in the panel clock. I don't know how with specific apps, but if your app stores that data i)n a .ics file, you can point to it in System Settings > Personal Information > Akonadi Resources. Mark the file as read only so that Akonadi doesn't mess with it. However, I did this and had some problems with Akonadi STILL messing with it, so now I use a different file and periodically (automatically) copy my current file to the other file. But this may not be a problem on your system.

X-Man, thanks for the update. So are you having any problems with fonts and appearance and integration running Evolution? I have been running Evolution in Mint 9 for a couple of years. I tried it several years back in KDE3 on Mepis and it was not good. Maybe I just didn't know how to set it up.

Well, the fonts seem OK, but some of the buttons are missing their icons. I can live with that, though. I think it's a gtk problem, and someone once told me how to fix it. I did what they suggested, and it made things better, but not perfect. Evolution is really rather ugly. I mean, not to beat around the bush, it's hideous. But it works, and I can export everything to a format that can easily be read by almost anything else, so I'm sticking with it.

I will give Evolution in KDE4 a look. That might solve my problems.

One little bothersome thing: the tasks do not show up on the calendar. So, all of my tasks are now events. It's just easier that way
