I have installed Kubuntu 10.04.4-amd64 with KDE 4.4.5 and KMail 1.13.5

In kmail I have this problem: when I create a new message and press the "Select..." button in the "To" section in order to pick up an address from the addressbook I don't see any of the the addresses of the addressbook. The only addresses I can see are the ones form recently sent messages. How can I see the addresses stored in the Kmail addressbook?

This is a known issue. Open System Settings -> Personal Information -> KDE Resources. In the drop-down menu select "Contacts", then click "Add...", then select "Akonadi Address Book". A new windows will appear, just click OK. Restart Kontact. I hope this will work
