I uninstalled Kmail using Muon immediatelly after install (since i use Thunderbird on all computers). But now i get a message about outbox missing.

This is the mesasage i get: http://ubuntuone.com/2eMkVlQUio6CR5lKlpZjaB

Thunderbird works fine otherwise (using IMAP), it's just these messages are a bit annoying. Any way to remove/resolve them?

Ensure that you don't have "show events" checked in the Plasma clock settings. Also, are you using any other bit of the KDEPIM suite (korganizer, etc.)?

will try to change the settings when i get home to see what happens.

it might be that some of them are on, but i am not using them. Korganizer shows when you click the clock i believe. it's a normal Kubuntu install otherwise. and most stuff remained default.

I just thought removing kmail was normal since i didnt' need it. but ti seems it might have caused some other issues i did not expect.

Most of the PIM stuff shares a common component, so it's possible that the removal changed some bits. If you however stop / uninstall all the elements that need it, this component won't start (it loads on demand) and thus you won't see any strange errors anymore.

I seem to recall reading once that Akonadi will also load if the calendar plugin is selected in the KRunner configuration. Is that still true?

You're probably right: you'll need to disable "Calendar events" and "contacts".

Remove the mail dispatcher - in System Settings go to Akonadi rescources and make sure no "mail" anything exists

i am not sure in what part of settings the akonadi resources are.

i reinstalled kmail (since there is plenty of space on disk anyway).

notification helper now only says that :
Software upgrade notifications are available.

and that's it. eventhough software is up to date according to Muon Package manager that Kubuntu uses.

In system tray select AkondiTray->Configure.
You will see a list of accounts under "Akondi Resource Configuration". You might find the account that was added in Kmail earlier.
Remove that and it will fix the false notification.
