Hi!
Before I could click "new message" and choose the mail transport which would result in changing the sender address also according to the settings in identiy and mailtransports in the kmail settings. Now this doesn't work anymore: When I change the mail transport for a new message I manually have to change the sender adress, which is quite annoying and inconvenient. So: How do I force kmmail to change the sender address according to the chosen mail transport for each individual message? thx for your help, piedro p.s.: the change of the mail transport also doesn't change the preconfigured signature ... p.s: kde 4.8.4 on kubuntu 12.04 |

I think I saw a bug report being fixed for this in post 4.9 beta 2.

Thx for your notice. but where did you see that. I installed KDE bet2 for 4.9 now because of your hint. But it's still the same.
I should have another sender address for every identity and the correct signature. but there is still no way to choose. The changing of the tranport (the first row of a new mail) doesn't change anything. So for every single mail I write I have to manually remove and replace the signature and write another sender address in the "from" field. (I have to do this manuallly because autocompleteion doesn't seem to work either on my own addresses!) Is there any workaround? plz help someone ... thx for reading, piedro |

Can you verify that your Identities and Transports are still connected to each other?
Have you tried changing the Identity instead of the Transport and seeing if the Identity specific transport works properly as a workaround?

Yes my identities are still correctly identified with emailadresses I want. Also the transports.
What do you mean with: "that your Identities and Transports are still connected to each other"? How can I change my identity when sending a new mail? The only choice I see is to change the transport with a selectable list above the sender address. There is no way of changing the identity ... well, I can manually add my emailaddress ... manually because autocompletion seems not to work on my own identities. Or it does not work in the in the field "from" - I don't know ... plz help someone this is really annoying ... thx, piedro |

The selectable list above the To field should be the Identity selection - at least that is what it selects here.
Further, I can nominate that a particular "Outgoing Account" (or Transport) is used to send email I send with a particular Identity. This is done in the settings of the Identity in question on the Advanced tab. This is what I was referring to with the link between them. If you do not nominate a particular account to send messages with for an identity, the default will be used instead (unless you specify otherwise, by selecting one manually from the drop down).

If I change this list item, the address in the "From" box remains unchanged, though the outgoing account is specified to another email address ... thx for reading, piedro |

I have just conducted a test, using two previously created identities (and two outbound hosts). It worked perfectly as far as I could tell, with the email address in the From field being changed as expected.
Where are you visually seeing the incorrect From address?

In the "from" field!
I click "new message" - I get a new message window with my default identity chosen by the transport list box and the correct email adress within the "From" field. Now I change the transport - now the transport list box shows another transport/identity - the "From" field stays unchanged no matter what I do ... I tested this for all my 9 identities, it works with none ... thx for your efforts, piedro |

It seems that KMail may have changed the appearance of the composer.

Hi again!
sry, i had to talke a holiday break. The image you sent is different von mine in only one aspect: Beetween the line "identity" and the line "To" there is a line "From" ! identity: selectable list of my identities From: addressfield, filled with with one of my addresses, looks like this: "Piedro Kulman" <piedro@xyz.com> To: empty addressfield Still the "From" line doesn't change when identity is selected, so it maybe right that internally the correct transport is chosen (I can't verify that!) but the receiver of the mail gets a different address as sender in the "From"-part of the header than I intended (unless I change it manually, which is a complete nuisance when forwarding a lot or answering many mails!) |

Hm, interesting. Do not know why this would occur unfortunately.
I'll see if I can find a developer.

Hi again!
I think I've found the problem. In the menu under "Appearance" there are tickboxes of what to show and what not. In my settings (maybe by migration of my older settings - I used the migration tool) the tickbox "transport" was enabled but not the tickbox "identity". Now after ticking it the selectable list box "identity" shows up and correctly changes the sender address on changing the list item. Transport automagically changes too. Changing the transport doesn't change the identity or sender adress - which seems correct. So there hasn't been a bug, It's just a matter of the default appearance configuration settings that was set when migrating to the most recent version. thx for your help, piedro |
