kmail2

Mon Jun 18, 2012 8:58 pm
Hi!

When I installed KDE 4.8.3 I kept kdepim 4.4.11 and now I have KDE 4.8.4 and keeping kdepim 4.4.11 still. I red problems with the new KMail and I am a little scared to update kdepim.
Are problems still exist or it is safe to update, please?
My OS is FreeBSD.

Thanks in advance.

I use kmail in 3 different linux (amd64 if that matters) accounts on two machines - with on average 3 IMAP accounts.

I had to switch from kmail to some other e-mail client when they switched to the akonadi backend. For the last two weeks I've given kdepim 4.8.3 another chance. On at least 2 of the linux users I purged all the old configuration before trying again, but it didn't make a difference. This are my problems so far (I'll try to find or file bug-reports later on):
  • Newly configured IMAP accounts were only listed after restarting kmail
  • after a few days akonadi began truncating incoming emails on one of my IMAP accounts - the content of the email was lost forever.
  • on another account it created empty messages with no subject and send-date of 1970.
  • when viewing messages in the preview section they are marked as read. after a while they appear as unread again.
There seem to be a lot of people that don't have any of these problems. So feel free to try. Backup your data first though.

Thank you very much. I will stay with the old one.
I am searching for the other email client. Maybe Thunderbird or Mutt.
