It all started when I randomly lost my kjots. Everyone said I needed to reconfigure akonaditray to use the old location rather than the new location.

Then I really jacked everything up.

Now I have no idea where my old or new files are. I've looked for them in 4 different locations posted on different topics. Sometimes I even get curr, temp and new folders. But they don't work. Akonaditray tells me theres no maildir in there or I have no priveledges. I even went and found out how to make myself root, and it still didn't work. I've been using dolphin to desperately search for akonotes. No such luck.

I've frustrated myself to the point of actual tears. >_<

This is really frustrating - and I know what I am talking about - I have the same problem ...
Let's face it:

KJots is an abandoned project - it doesn't work anymore, but nobody cares to take it out of the PIM Suite! That is because nobodiy of the KDE staff guys use it. Cause it's ****. There are good apllications but nobody puts work in it ..

Basket: beta since two years, abandoned and not integrated into Knotact (it was at one point, but KDE doesn't care about regress!)
Cherrytree: Good idea but not made for KDE, I don't see any integration at all to come ...
Keepnote: Looks good, some nice features, but also not integrated ..
Tomboy: Well a good program but instead of integrating it into Kontact/Akonadi - let's use the Kjots **** and to confuse the user even more: leave knotes integrated also ... (???)

Concerning your problem: I also thought that the Akonadi stuff with a MySQL database behind it would create a safer solution against mirgation problems, but the opposite is blatantly true! It just doesn't work with the Kjots stuff ... don't know why ... Once I could save my notes by manually adding every hidden folder (the ones starting with a ".") - then you get unreadable names and it takes hours ... (with 600 notes I don#t knnow how long it will take ...)

In my book I don't have any problems with mistakes being made. The thing I really detest is the silence of the devs - at least they could comment on the problems and work with the community on workarounds - the communication of the KDE project is a shame, the forums are great, the moderators are great, but when it comes to the tough problems that mess up users data or completely destroy any usability - the dev guys (and I am sure they work hard but still...) just don't come out in the open and support the users that trusted the label "stable" on thier software!

A first step, as I asked for earlier, is to just inform users about the current status and warn about regress, abandoned development and if there's no interest in fixing some tough problems then at least say so!

So to be specific: What is the future plan for notetaking in KDE?
