When replying to an email message, the original message is quoted thanks to the "%QUOTE" in the template, but the only thing that happens, is that the message is quoted just as it is. It is moved 1 tab to the right, but there is no quote sign '>´ before the lines.
My template:
Did I do something wrong? I use kmail2 4.9 --Kees

In the Configure window, in the Composer section, Standard Templates tab, at the bottom-right corner of the window is the "Quote indicator" box. Does that box have a > character in it? (I'm using 4.9 as well.)

Got the same behaviour when I set KMail to use HTML reply - and I think that is the problem, the "quote" settings do not apply to HTML mail
Also on 4.9, earlier versions did not have this but also did not have "true" HTML mail reply |

Yes the quote indicator is there and I also tried another character
![]() But.. now I am at my work and here kmail quotes just fine. ..but that was a message woth no html in it. Another message with html does not work, like Sinclair wrote. Okay... That's it! In the settings: ( ) reply using html if present is switched off now. Problem solved ![]() Thank you Sinclair! --Kees

Well I would not call that solved, rather "found a way around it". The quoted text function in HTML mail needs improving though I am happy that we now HAVE the "reply using HTML if present" as that has been on wishlist for years
