Migrating old calendar directory not quite working

I've recently switched from Debian Wheezy to openSUSE 12.2, and am trying to re-import my email. the migration to the new format didn't work correctly so I have to manually import each and every folder separately (which is a pain, but I suppose I should be thankful I can at least import them!). However, importing my calendar looks like it's going to involve much more pain:

I've added a calendar - "KDE Calendar (traditional) - and browsed to a backup of my old calendar folder (which contains about 300 files, each of which are around 5.4 KiB in size), and I can see my calendar entries, but it's like the calendar isn't being treated as a 100% usable calendar. for starters it's only allowing me to use Month view. Is there a way to migrate this to whatever new format the KDE PIM gods have decided is de rigueur this year?

I'm using KDE & Kontact versions 4.8.4

Thanks.

I am also restricted to "Month View" for all calendars in KOrganizer. It won't let me choose day, week, anything. It's like my entire KOrganizer is corrupt. So I tried deleting the following

~/.kde4/share/apps/korganizer/
~/.kde4/share/config/korganizerrc

And restarted Kontact and added a new calendar, yet still only "Month View"

I too had no success migrating my old calendar and so I'm afraid I have abandoned Kontact as I rely on my calendar and moved to an altenative application which was able to import and display the caldendar..

Over the years and distros I've used Thunderbird and Evolution and Kontact, and now that I'm back using openSUSE with KDE, I'm using Kontact. Of the three I think I like it the most, but it's just this darned calendar that's giving me grief. At the moment I'm not using it at all and am using my iPhone, but I would like to have a Linux-based calendar too :-(

If your entries are in ICS or equivalent format, what abou tcreating a standard (not traditional) calendar and importing the files there (File > Import in KOrganizer)?
