In the age of TB hard drives, I don't want to delete my emails. I want to have them archived, indexed, and searchable. So instead of deleting emails when I'm finished with them, I've been moving them to a local folder called archive, which is at the same level as my inbox and outbox folders.
I just discovered that if I receive a new email that is a continuation of a thread that I've archived, the email is displayed in my inbox detached from the thread in which it belongs. This is not ideal. One alternative to this workflow would be to leave the emails in my inbox and instead expire them to the archive folder after a number of days. This is not ideal either for two reasons:
I would much appreciate any suggestions on how to archive emails and still maintain a threaded view of them as they come in. |

I'm not sure this is possible: are you using local folders for your archive, by any chance?
