Hello,
I use POP3 Mail accounts. I have transferred the data from a older computer to the newer one and installed the newest version of KDE. At the beginning I downloaded all mails and also the new mail where visible. But then I wanted to clean up the akonadi and made a akonadictrl fsck akonadictrl restart and afterwarts the mailorders vanished. No mail / mailorder existed anymore. As I have read in: http://blogs.kde.org/node/4503 the mails should also be stored in .kde4/share/apps/kmail but there I found only the old files from the not old computer, not the new downloaded mails. I nowhere found the mails. But what really frustrated me, is that I afterwarts imported the old mails inside the new kmail environment. First they where visible under the created folder/KDE-Import/... and I found them in the file system under ~/.local/share/local-mail But today the content vanished again. Is kmail/akonadi or whatever is responsible for that so unstable/unreliable? Is there any chance not to loose my mails or to find them again. As long as I can not rely that my mails are not shreddered Kmail is not really usable. Is there a way to make it somehow reliable. It is a nice feature to be able to search fast for mails. But for it is more important not to loose them and be able to read them. Regards, Tammo |

I think I have found where the mails where stored.
I found at least some of the newer mails in ~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data But I do not like this kind of "proprietary" data format. When I want to store my data in that kind of way I can use Windows. I think data/mail should be stored in a way, that access with several different mail tools is possible. For example because some mail tool is corrupt or does not work properly (like kmail2/akonadi). It is a nice feature to be able to search fast for mails, but it does not make much sense if you are not enabled to read that mails afterwards. Is there a way to import the mails from the ~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data-Folder in a mail tool. I think I could simply put them together in a mbox-file. Is there a plan to make kmail2 usable again (e.g. mbox/maildir)? |

The file_db bit is just a cache. Messages are stored in plain text, using the Maildir format. Due to the Maildir format itself, you'll find your mails in ./local/.local-mail.directory or something of the sort.
