I am not a very organized person. The inbox is just one long list of emails. While attempting to clean it up this morning, I discovered the kmail is not especially organized either. Moving emails out of the inbox into a local folder appears to occur. Later while moving another set of emails from the inbox to a different folder, some of the previously moved emails reappear in the inbox. At first I thought, the zombie emails were really just an oversight on my part so I moved them again. That proved the moves didn't happen as yet more email appeared in my inbox seemingly originating from other local folder that had recently received email, too. On further investigation, I have discovered that there are now emails in triplicate split between my inbox and local folders. What gives? Does anybody really care about the quality and usability of kmail for its users before it is released. Does anyone know how to clean up the damage. These kinds of problems have going on for far too long!

What version of KDE PIM are you using?

It is the version of kmail shipped as part of kde 4.9.2 in the opensuse 12.2 release repositories (release 511).

I wonder if it's the same bug that affected filtering (because the sympthoms are the same): in that specific case, it got fixed and will be in 4.9.3.

I hope you are right. I won't do any mail sorting until kde 4.9.3 is released. Any ideas on how to remove duplicates and triplicates? I continue to be burned by my unwise choice to use kmail. Any thoughts yet on pulling kmail from kde releases until the quality improves? It would prevent others from becoming unwitting guinea pigs. There should be no debate; bugs that damage email should be stoppers.

There's a menu option to remove duplicate mail. I did it when spam filters kept on duplicating mail (the bug is now fixed). And on pulling, the developers thought the opposite to prevent stagnation: in fact, a new maintainer stepped up only after it was released with 4.7.
This post outlines what's cooking for KDE PIM in the near future.
