I installed openSuSE12.2 a couple of days ago, had a number of akonadi problems that are now partly resolved. It is very difficult to keep track of new mail because all of them are delivered as "read"
(1) it arrives in the Inbox as "read" and not displayed in the assigned color in bold as customized (2) does not play sound as assigned to alert new (3) no display on taskbar to show number of new mail received Would also like to know whether it is possible to set the entire mailbox directory to a specific /home folder rather than drilling down hidden files to find the mailbox and address book. I tried importing the saved LDIF address book exported from previous version 11.4. Every attempt to import created a blank Personal Contact. Succeeded on the 3rd attempt (I named it MyContact so I won't think its another dud). Kalendar is not working as it used to in openSuSE11.4 (not sure what version KDE it was) - namely events entry not showing, no alarm although it was set in Settings. etc and pretty much most of the problems described in other postings. Of top priority to me is being able to avoid having to enter 100s of contact details manually if the import is unsuccessful. Any help to get KMail showing new mail as it should and a Kalendar that sends out reminders would be of such great help. Thanks in advance. In summary, openSuSE12.2 is definitely not what it was hyped up to be. |

Replying bit by bit
I haven't seen this in a very long time. Is this fresh configuration or existing one?
This works, but it's still somewhat inconsistent.
Please check if you have enabled you calendar (check if it's checked in KOrganizer) and if you have one in the first place - some installs don't create a default calendar.
KOrganizer sets reminders correctly here: I use that feature all the time.

Its a new install with the root partition formatted only. I notice akonadi downloads mail even when KMail is not running. Could that be the reason? I wonder if it will be the same after a new installation?
Yes, i have imported the previous calendar ics file from suse11.4 and have enabled notification in Kalendar. I get reminders without a hitch before suse12.2 As a temp measure so I will know new mail has arrived, I assign a colored label to the last message I received and set it 'unread' to help me see that new messages have arrived. But it only works if I'm sitting in front of the computer whereas a sound notification will alert me even when i'm not physically in front of the machine. |

Did you go through the migrator, or did you have already the "new" version of PIM before upgrading?

I'm not sure whether I understand what you meant by 'migrator'. I did a new installation over SuSE11.4 and imported the calendar I exported. There are too many problems cropping up that I have decided to manally delete all system and apps related files before doing another new install. Funny things are popping up every day almost. It was suggested that I may have a corrupted DVD to start with. In the process of downloading again with Downthemall using Metalink that does an auto checksum.
With the most crucial apps to me not functioning - Firefox totally dead, KMail, AddressBook, printer not discovered, removable usb drives not mounted automatically, the system is useless. IMHO, openSuSE was great up until version 11.4. |
