Hi,
At some point yesterday Kmail stopped sending out my emails through Gmail. I get this error notification:
It says PLAIN authentification format is not supported by the server. I find that unlikely for 2 reasons: Nr. 1, whereever you look (as far as Kmail documentation), plain is the format, and it has worked up to this point. Nr 2, that's also what you get when letting Kmail automatically recognize the settings. Nr 3, this setup has been working for months. I went through everything, trying different ports and all. I don't think the problem is my configuration. The link provided in the notification also does not help in my case (I tried the procedure). I noticed something else though: Kmail doesn't call KWallet to request my password anymore, even after several akonadi, akonadi agent and system restarts. It downloads messages without a password check. But it doesn't send them. Maybe authentification fails because KWallet doesn't get involved to provide the right data. My question: What can be done about this? I really need Kmail working. This is Kmail 4.9.2 with akonadi-runtime 1.8.0 from openSUSE 12.2's 4.9 repo. Thank you in advance for your help. EDIT: Okay, my theory might be wrong. Sending worked with a different provider and no problems. Then the question remains if it is a client side problem with Gmail or a server (=configuration) side problem. Hope somebody can help me. EDIT2: There is definitely no problem with KWallet. The reason I hadn't noticed it was that apparently Kmail used the wallet that had been opened shortly before by Akregator that was preloaded. Oh well. Did I mention I have this problem with 2 separate Google accounts simultaneously? |

What are the settings of Google's SMTP? I don't use their service but I normally use KMail with TLS or SSL and I've yet to find issues on that regard.
Did you also try to detect the server's properties in the SMTP server configuration dialog?

Thank you for your reply. You know what, tonight it all worked again. Maybe deleting and recreating the Google smtp accounts was what did the trick. Thanks again!
