Hello group -
I'm running Kmail 4.9.3 on Ubuntu 12.10. I've tried to used Kmail on and off for a long time (in earlier edition of Ubuntu) and have never been able to get it to send. I've been using linux for YEARS and I know this shouldn't be difficult but in this case it is. I've seen similar postings elsewhere around the the 'net but haven't found a solution, so I'm coming here. The message get's posted to the outbox and the error message I get back is this: Failed to transport message. The server did not accept the sender address "reid@rsv-linux". The server responded: "5.1.8 - Domain of sender address reid@rsv-linux does not exist [R0107008]". Thanks, Reid

This looks to me like a SMTP problem. What settings are you using for SMTP?

Hello einar -
Thanks for the reply. Not sure how much detail you need, and I'm not sitting in front of the Kmail client but here's what I recall from memory.... I use my mailbox ID and set the server to smpt-server.roadrunner.com with no authentication. And that's about it. Happy to help with more specifics if needed. thx Reid |

Does SMTP sending work with another client? It looks like it is rejecting your attempts to send.

Yep, works perfectly with Evolution, Claws, Zimbra, etc. Really odd. It is completely possible this pilot error, so even though Kmail is a somewhat different than other clients it's not That different.
Happy to supply any trace or dump info, or config info. Thanks again Reid |

Got it working.
The answer was in fact in the SMTP settings, like you said. I took a hint from the use of a bogus domain in the error message and plugged correct email values into the Advanced tab of SMTP settings where it asked for "Use Custom Sending Address". Restarted Kmail, and it works. thanks for the help |

Glad to see the problem is solved. Can you mark the topic as solved as well? Thanks!
