I am running a fully updated PCLinuxOS system on a desktop PC with 4 GBytes Ram and a twin-core AMD processor. I have successfully used KMail for a number of years, but at present cannot get access to the KMail application, nor access any of my previous incoming or outgoing e-mails. The problem (which as you will see may be self-inflicted) appears to be related to akonadi/nepomuk, and the case history is set out in a thread on the PCLOS forum at:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.ph ... 666.0.html The details of the current problem, including error codes from a command line invocation of KMail are included in the third post. I don't use KWallet, Kontact, etc, so only need to get KMail (and KAlarm) up and running again; however, getting access to KMail and its contents is vital to me. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. petern

Can you check in "akonadiconsole" whether the "Local Folders" resource points to a valid path? (click on it and select configure).

Einar,
Thanks for your response. I have looked in akonadiconsole, and find the following under the Agents tab: KMail Folders points to
which is correct, and all the mail folders are shown with
The only apparent anomaly is that Akonadi Nepomuk Feeder is shown as:
Additionally, I have ascertained that the folder home/userhome/.kde4/share/apps/kmail/mail/.inbox.directory clearly still contains the archive of messages. I hope this information is useful, although on my installation I couldn't locate the entry "Local Folders" in akonadiconsole to which you referred. |

You don't have a local folders resource. Try creating one in "akonadiconsole". Click on "Add" and select local folders (it should be there). Otherwise list here the choices you are offered.

Thanks, Einar, for your latest reply.
Opening akonadiconsole from Konsole I am still getting an error message:
Items already available in the Agents list in Akonadi Console are:
Items listed as available to be ADDed are:
I don't see anything identified specifically as Local Folders - perhaps I am looking in the wrong place? |

No, you're right, I forgot how it's called. Create a "Maildir" resource, name it "Local Folders" and point it to .local/share/local-mail/
See if you still have a crash after that.

Einar, thanks. KMail is now running perfectly, with all the original e-mails in place. The only adjustment I had to make after following your instruction over Maildir was to re-specify the destinations of the message filters, which seemed to have been re-set to a random selection of the mailboxes in the application. However all now seems well with KMail, and the revived system has survived a re-boot, so I'm hopeful that's sorted out.
However, I still can't set any alarms in KAlarm and I wonder if you have any ideas on that one, and whether it is related to the akonadi problem? I'm still getting the following error message when I start akonadiconsole from Konsole:
On a trivial point, I tried to put an exclamation mark in my opening sentence above, and it displayed simply as a vertical bar (which may have been a vertical bar, or maybe a lowercase L). Thought somebody on the web team ought to know - or is it an attempt to avoid furious comments on the Forum (add exclamation mark here) petern |

For KAlarm, please open a specific thread in the KAlarm forum.
That other console error is mostly harmless from a user point of view (it's meant for developers). As for the forum issue, please open a separate thread in the feedback forum. Lastly, if your issue is solved, please mark this topic as such. Thanks!

Thanks Einar (insert exclamation mark here)
I'll raise the other points elsewhere as you suggest. Petern |
