Kontact & KMail Issues

Sun Mar 10, 2013 4:07 pm
Gentoo
KDE 4.10

When I first turn my computer on Kontact usually starts when I try to open it, but when I close out of it and try to re-open it, it will not open. KMail will open, but when I try to select an email KMail simply says "Retrieving Folder Contents Please wait..."

I had read this could be related nepomuk desktop search so I unchecked "enable nepomuk semantic desktop" and restarted my computer. I have the same problem. When I go back into Nepomuk Server Configuration "Enable Nepomuk Semantic Desktop" is unchecked but right underneath it says "Desktop search services are active." Not sure if that is normal or not.

I have tried 3 different akonadi database backends. Currently it is set to SQLite.

In case it matters my email accounts are both IMAP, one is moderately large and the other is brand new with 10 emails total.

I would not recommend SQLite for normal usage due to the serious concurrency issues it has (it's a limit of the platform, not of the PIM backend). THat said, before you do that, do you see any errors in ~/.xsession-errors?

entire file: www.niutke.com/xsession

Things I've tried:
I just updated to kde 4.10.1 (kmail is 4.9.5 still)
I deleted the following folders
.kde4/
.config/akonadi
.local/share/akonadi

Same issue. Also, when Kontact starts, Kmail starts in a separate window. Can't figure that one out either.

If SQLite is not recommended, what is? Mysql? PostgreSQL?

Removed sqlite from my global use flags and added mysql. Updated my system with the new flags. Configured akonadi to use mysql. After a reboot that fixed the issue of kmail opening in a different window but I still had the issue of "Retrieving Folder Contents Please wait..."

Then I disabled kwallet. Now my messages are appearing instantly when I click on them. I'll follow up and post if this works in the long run. No idea why kwallet would screw me over like that.

If you can find a way to reliably trigger the problem, please file a bug.

It worked great for awhile and now the issue is exactly as described in original post. KMail is open within Kontact. It is not frozen, but when I select a message it forever says "Retrieving Folder Contents Please wait..." KWallet does not prompt me for a password or tell me my password is incorrect or anything. Not that it should, seeing as how it was working a short while ago.

When I close Kontact I am completely unable to open it, the icon bounces up and down for 30 seconds or so then stops. If I wait long enough, usually over a half hour or so, I am then able to open it again.
