Migration from Kmail1 to Kmail2

Sat Mar 16, 2013 8:20 pm
I have been running openSUSE 11.4 (Linux 2.6.37.6-24-desktop x86_64) for about a year and a half without significant incident. This platform uses KDE version 4.6.00 (4.6.0) “release 6” and Kmail 1.13.6.

I am in the process of migrating to openSUSE 12.2 with default KDE and Kmail by means of using a clean install on new hard drive.

I need some guidance on the best way to migrate my old Kmail one files (on the initial hard drive) over to Kmail two on the new install (new hard drive). I have been reading about a number of problems with this migration and would like to do the job without jeopardizing my old files. Suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.

you have some advice here that I think are still valid and does not apply to Kubuntu only:
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/OneiricOcelot/ ... ntu/Kmail2

look at userbase.kde.org also:

Some suggestions:

- If you have local mail folders, import it using the maildir importer (File > Import...) rather than migrating the account;
- If you have IMAP accounts, recreate them in kmail 2

The way of moving KMail 1 data to 2 is being changed for 4.11 since exotic or non standard configurations cause problems in migration. The recommended way is to import data (now a bit troublesome, 4.11 will have a dedicated importer) rather than migrate.
