Kjots won't launch, lost data file

Tue May 07, 2013 2:50 am
Pardon me if this is not the correct forum to post about KJots. Since this software is part of the PIM in KDE, I figure this is a worthwhile spot.

This is a mysterious turn of events. I am not a total newbie to pc's but only have about 3 years under my belt when it comes to Linux. The detail of events described is to try unravel and understand things, so kindly indulge me.

Recently my trash folder reached its capacity. Though I cleaned it out by deleting its contents via Dolphin, I was still receiving dialog prompts to clean it up manually. After doing some research, I found this article http://unsolicitedbutoffered.blogspot.ca/2011/07/trash-has-reached-its-maximum-size.html and followed Option 3 to launch Dolphin as Root and delete the contents of /tmp. This did not correct the situation, so I fell back on Option 2, opening a command prompt and pointing it to /home/[username]/.local/share/Trash/ deleting the Trash that method. Good, now the Trash prompt is gone. However, in the process it has done something to KJots.

Immediately after cleaning out the trash, I launched KJots and my data is gone. I closed the program and attempted in vain to restore the data from back-ups looking in either of the paths cited in this article: http://userbase.kde.org/KJots/Recover_Deleted_KJots_Books. While I do have the path '/.kde4/share/apps/kjots' in my Home directory, there is no data there under the back-ups, which leads me to suspect there was some kind of foul up or a symbolic link to something in /tmp. Is there another possible path KJots data is stored under?

Since the initial launch of KJots that one time after cleaning out Trash, I can not launch KJots. I receive a dialog "KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/kjots'". I have attempted to correct this with a re-install and then a purge plus re-install. I still get the error.

Even if I can not get my data back, I would like to be able to use KJots again
