It looks like there's something really broken. Can you try to do "akonadictl stop" followed by "akonadictl start"? Can you also check if all distribution packages are installed correctly?

here is the akonadi stop and akonadi restart from earlier
http://pastebin.com/QLV0jwza here it is from just now...
I've seen very similar problems to this post: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-928462-start-0-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-kmail.html?sid=5391339bbee9c1b5b773a0b8ff44cf16

You probably meant "akonadictl" rather than "akonadi".

in regards to the gentoo forums post, I renamed
to
restarted my computer and nepomuk actually seems to work...it's now indexing my files, as it hasn't done this for some time... Kontact began to work flawlessly, until I skipped over an email that I wanted to save and...crash...back to hanging... |

So I have no idea what papapenguin's actual problem was. But I have a problem, that can only be described with the title of this thread.
Anyway, my KMail worked mostly okay. The only thing that bothered me was that it got a connection error with GMail from time to time. Yesterday I had enough of this error and thought, that if I just remove the GMail IMAP client and set it again, everything will work fine. Well I was wrong. Now when the GMail folders are trying to sync it just "hangs". I've tried everything. I deleted all KMail and Akonadi settings, yet still the same. I have no idea what it could be.

What version of KDE PIM are you using?

ok...here's what solved the damned thing...
It turns out that downgrading to stable KDE, akonadi-server and soprano (maybe mediastreamer, but I don't know about that) by changing accept_keywords
I think that may have done it, because ALL my kmail/akonadi/nepomuk problems seem to have been solved...this was really a systemic problem... |

I remembered that I still have a test user, just for this sorts of things...
I set up KMail there (apparently haven't set it up before) and it works, it retrieves all the mail. It takes some time, but it's like 1min or something. On my account it freezes at 25% and if I restart it, it freezes at 12% and if I restart again, it freezes at 8% and so on, until it freezes at 1%. So can I just copy paste some setting from the test account to my account and get it fixed or is it something more complex? Do I need to clear the Akonadi SQL database? I had a suspicion that could be the problem, even I have no idea why.

I've been debugging this with another KDE developer who was affected. In this case, check if you have in ~/.config/akonadi a file called agent_config_akonadi_maildir_resource_0_changes.dat or with a similar name (needs to have "maildir" in it). Move the file away (don't delete it, just in case) and see if the problem goes away.

I do have that file. Do I need also to remove the IMAP settings in Akonadi, because just moving it away doesn't change anything... In Akonadi settings it says GMail ready (25%) and nothing is happening, again.

No, this looks like a different issue. I'm unable however to reproduce this with IMAP.
