Hallo!
On the last May I upgraded the OS from OpenSuse 11.4 (KDE 4,3?) to 12.2 (KDE 10.5). I was rather happy with the PIM result. Not all the old settings were transferred into the new PIM, but the kmail migrator worked very good: all my old mails and mail-directories were correct imported and it was quite easy to implement again the original KOrganizer and Kontact files. But in the last weeks the behaviour of the PIM, especially of KMail, has been becoming stranger and stranger. For example: a) Sometimes mail filters run correct, sometimes only partial or not at all. Twice I noticed, some filters has been even deleted! At the time, it seems, the mail filtering runs good again. b) The mail setting "Download new mails at start" does not run c) Sometimes starts KMail on an extra-windows (not im principle PIM-windows) d) Searching for mails is not possible. Answer message: "The semantic search agent "Nepomuk" is not available". But that's wrong: Nepomuk is running,I checked! But the current new problem is very serious: I cannot read (open) or answer any mails. I can write new mails but not send or save them as draft. When I try to open a mail it happens nothing When I try to answer one, a little Box with in-progress bar comes out. Box title: "Please wait - Kontact" - Box message: "Wait while the mail is being sending". But you can wait hours, it happens nothing else. When I try to send e new mail, a rotating sand glass comes out, that rotates and rotates ... and nothing else happens. How can I solve the problem? Maybe It can be interesting. 1) Sometimes the system reports the following error message. The resource "KMail-Directory" is not able to run. The resource is now "Online". 2) running the command "akonadictl status" gives: Akonadi Control: running Akonadi Server: running Akonadi Server Search Support: available (backend: Virtuoso) Please help me - I don't actually know at all, what can I do, except to use another mail program. Thanks in advance susino |

Following new data could be helpful ... When I start akonadi from the terminal (akonadictl start or akonadictl restart), some error lines occur repeatedly: 1) akonadi_pop3_resource_1(7302)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: ItemRetrieverException : Unable to retrieve item from resource: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. >> QUESTION: which remote application should have not sent a reply? 2) Provided 1 values - "[NAME OF MAIL DIRECTORY]"^^<http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#string>. It looks as if your akonadi resource for your pop3 account is broken, something related could be Bug #285676

Hello Neverdingo,
Thanks for your suggestion! You wrote:
The mentioned bug could be related with the problems of my KMail, but they are referred to KDE4.7.x and maybe 4.8. I'm using KDE10.5. Anyway, I had a look in the bug list and I found a bugs, that describes the same item for KDE11.beta2: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322039 Actually I would ask somebody with experience with the KDE bugs ... Does it bring, if I add my report to this bug? |

The bug so far is marked as unconfirmed. And the info provided (debug output or what you provided above) is not present. So yes, any new information or sometimes also just a "yes, i can confirm, i have exactly the same problem" can help to nail down that bug. Anything that could help the developers reproducing the problem or finding the source of it.

I did'nt find any solution to "reanimate" kmail, so I decided to install openSuse 12.3 with KDE 4.10.5 to another partition. Then I imported the mails from the old system.
Kmail has been worked (not very good, in truth) until today, as quite all the mails have been deleted. I think about, to go back to KDE3-PIM. It doesn't offer all the futures of the new one, but it is stable and reliable. It would be a great idea, if the PIM development team abandon the current akonadi-nepomuk-way ... Many people is leaving Kmail & co. |
