Hello everybody!
I use KDE 4.10.5 on Arch. For reasons I don't understand Kmail lost the connection to my local folders. So I made a backup of "/.local/share/local-mail/" and ".local/share/.local-mail.directory", deleted the "local folders"-agent in Akonadi console and created a new one. The new agent points correctly to ".local/share/local-mail" and new local folders haev been created in kmail. Now: When I create subfolders and move mails into my new local folders they don't show up anywhere in my file system though they are accessible via kmail. Where are they? Creating a folder "testing" under "local folders" in kmail does work and there's twenty mail in it. Searching my file system (yes, I included hidden folders) brings up no resultes for "testing" neither do I find it or the twenty mails under "local-mail" or in ".local-mail.directory"! Where is my mail located? Has something changed with the storage of local mails and folders which I am not aware of? How comes I can access and manipulate the mails in kmail without finding any corresponding files? please, if someone could clarify this and tell me what to find my mails. thx for reading, piedro |

These are in only if you use disconnected IMAP. Local mail is kept in Maildir format in the directories stated in the resource that hosts them (although sometimes it is hard to find them).

Ok, then I don't understand it either.
I have onle 12 maildirs. In KMail there are about 40 maps. Most of the incoming mail is filtered and moved into those maps. I created a new map and it appears as a maildir. I can't choose anything for that new map, except a name. Moved a few messages to it in KMail, but nothing is written to that new maildir. But in KMail the moved messages are there. Most of the local mail is in ~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data I don't use imap. What is local mail? I am confused.

Local mail is stored in either mbox or Maildir format, the latter being preferred by default by KMail. Can you post the contents (ls -la) of the path in the configuration for these folders?

In total 10 maildirs So the other 30 submaps are in the akonadi database but not on the harddisk as maildir. In local-mail/trash/new are 19 files. But in KMail there are 97 messages in the trash folder. Most of local-mail/* is empty but in KMail it shows (a lot of) messages. It is very confusing.

I'm a little confused by your terminology. What are the "submaps" you mention, exactly?

Sorry, English is not my native language
![]() In KMail I have
Just branches of the main local mail map. Most of them are not available as subdirectories of ~/.local/share/local-mail The messages are in ~/.local/share/akonadi/fild_db_data

I'll try to ask the developers about it, as this is becoming a major source of confusion.
