I am in the process of migrating my mail from Thunderbird to Kmail and so far so good.

The only issue that I haven´t been able to solve is the one described in the subject.

I have set my mail folder view to: aggregation Flat Date View and theme to Classic. After doing this a page header appears (which is what I wanted). It shows Subject, Sender/Receiver, date, etc. I prefer having sender/receiver in the 1st (leftmost) column so I grab and move it there. However, when I restart Kontact/Kmail the order is back to Subject first. I have checked folder permissions and they seem fine.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'm running openSUSE 12.3 and KDE 4.11.1.

Never mind. I found a workaround. I went to settings/configure kmail/appearance/message list and made "flat date view" and "classic" the default aggregation and theme respectively.
