Right. Upgraded my "trusty" Kubuntu 12.10 w KDE 4.10.5 to 13.10 with KDE 4.11.2
And here goes. Virtuoso is chewing over 500 Mb RAM and just grows. There used to be a "max RAM" setting, nowhere to be found. I have a new akonadi thing "Tags" that seems to be impossible to deal with as I have to items "queued". How to remove or edit I have no idea as much as I have no idea where they came from. All "akonadi" tags are "untouchable" in kmail, can not be deleted. I still wonder why I have an Akonadi_notes resource when no notes are ported to akonadi. And the worst of all: once again address autocompletion in KMail is not working. Suddenly it throws up "found in your data" but very few from Contacts. I have not asked to index all my historic mail for addresses. I want my Contacts to be showing up + recent addresses, nothing else. Meanwhile virtuoso and mysqld are busy warming up my laptop and eating my RAM + Cpu. And this is an i5 Intel with 4 Gb Ram. WHAT has been changed between 4.10.x and 4.11.x to make this happen? |

As I write, virtuoso is using over 600 Mb Ram and 19 % cpu while nepomukstorage is using 10%. That is 30% CPU for doing something that was done already in 4.10, that is indexing my files and mail and contacts.

The max RAM setting is useless, it only affects Virtuoso. IIRC from 4.10 to 4.11 the internal structure of the Nepomuk database changed, hence it requires a conversion that may explain the CPU usage (I hardly have any CPU usage by virtuoso and I'm using a similarly-specced machine).
I'm not sure for completion, as it never worked too reliably for me but I never investigated the cause.

Well I do not consider it useless as when I gave up virtuoso was close to 1gb RAM and back on 4.10.5 it stays nicely around 350. The conversion in question has never been outlined to us kdepim users, only the normal "wow how things have improved" and so on. I left my laptop on for close to 24 hours without any improvements. And the KMail address search was still giving me "from your data" results when all I want is "Contacts" results. I really do appreciate you monitoring and replying but my frustration at this moment with unannounced, unexplained changes to "core" systems is high. It is not "useless" to me to stop something from eating my system. In 4.11 virtuoso eventually came close to 1Gb RAM and on top of that Kontact consumed close to 600 Mb ram. In 4.10.5 Kontact is using 72 Mb. What is causing the difference? I have no idea. What is the "akonadi-send-later" agent and what in heavens name is it for? Why on Earth would "send later" mail be searchable from other apps than KMail? Why are the Tags in Akonadi suddenly and why can I not manage them through some kcm or other application? I had duplicate "queued" tags but no way to remove whatever was wrong, not even via akonadiconsole. Note that I do not have any mail tagged "queued". Apologise for the part rant but here is a lack of communication with end users eg "for next release we are considering the following, what do you think". How is Kolab ever gonna sell this to commercial end users if this is how it behaves? |
