Hi,
I have not understood yet how to connect the two pieces of software. I am running Linux Mint Debian Edition based on Jessie. I run the Mate desktop (not KDE). I installed kmail, kaddressbook, khelpcenter4, and kontact. I have KMail 1.13.7 (using KDE Development Platform 4.10.5) and KAddressBook Version 4.4.11 (using KDE Development Platform 4.10.5). I configured KMail and I imported my addresses in KAddressBook. When I type an address in a new mail form, only the addresses from the Recent Addresses address book show up. I spent hours in the Web to find out that people need to edit the KDE system settings but I cannot do that because I do not run the desktop. Is it possible to use KMail with a personnal address book without using the KDE desktop? Thanks in advance for any piece of advice. |

I found out that kdepim had to be installed. I installed it and rebooted the computer to no avail. I still do not have access to the Personal Contacts of the KAddressBook from KMail. It only shows Default Address Book, Distribution Lists, Recent Addresses, and Selected Recipients in the list of address books provided by the Select button of the Composer window. I cannot find a tutorial explaining how to install KMail in a non-KDE environment

Let me ask for extra safety: are you using KDEPIM 4.4.x?

Yes, kdepim 4.4.11.1, version number taken from the Debian repository (aptitude show kdepim gives 4.4.11.1).

You may want to ask the question also on the kdepim-users mailing list, as that version is very old (predates the Akonadi based version) and I'm not sure of how it handled autocompletion.

Thanks a lot for your piece of advise. That made me understand the current kdepim model and parts of its evolution. I have already found useful information in the mailing list archive.. I am going to post a question there. For the first time, I feel I understand something about how it should work
