I am running Kmail 4.8.5 (+KDE platform 4.8.5) on a Kubuntu 12.04.
I did experience the issue reported in the bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291143 (Kmail cannot create folders on a IMAP server). The bug seems to be fixed in thre KDE 4.10 but how do I get the fix conveniently. I have the Kubuntu ppa for backports but it seems that I do not still get new enough version of akonadi. Another issue is that due to failing in creating the folder on my server I keep getting notifications "Unknown error. (Could not create collection test resourceId: 11)". I do not know how to get rid of the annoying notifications that repetadly pop up on my KDE desktop notification area. Help! How to do that without terminating the whole akonadi or my dovecot server (stopping the server seems to stop sending the notifications but I believe that the notification is created by the akonadi.) Thanks for the help. I am fairly new in KDE and I do not always know where to fix certain things. Mika |

Thanks, but this is what I do not want to do.
I want to stay in a stable release (not the latest) for "production work". At least in the Ubuntu side the 12.04 is supposed to be a LTS (long term support) -release. I have the kubuntu-ppa -backports added to my sources list. I would expect key services, like akonadi, to be backported for the 12.04 release. Maybe it is, but I cannot figure out what version numbers in akonadi correspond the KDE release mentioned in the bug report. Maybe I should upgrade the KDE but stay in the ubuntu 12.04 what comes to other software ? I really would not like to mess up with my installation whcih is otheriwise tuned to my needs and pretty stable. I it is practically impossible to upgrade broken the akonadi I can live with work arounds but I would still like to kill the annoying notifications that keep disturbing me. Thanks. |

You could disable all notifications in the applet but then that would be a bit drastic
in the patch commit https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/k ... 18ff529718 it states: "Reporters of closed bugs: if you can still see the bug in 4.10.2, please reopen and state the details" so KDE SC 4.10.5 in the updates repo should contain the required patch KDE sw is always receiving fixes so upgrading KDE but keeping Ubuntu 12.04 should provide you with a better desktop experience but with the same Linux stability you're currently experiencing, it should also be possible using apt to downgrade to 4.8.x though there could be some config issues by downgrading if you're wondering about ill effects of just up'ing KDE ask on the Kubuntu forum to see what others in your postition experienced when upgrading just KDE |

I did read the link you provided more carefully now but I am still not sure if it provides a solution for me. (without a mess)
The person who asked the question in the other forum did not have the desktop installed plus I believe that if I do a dist-upgrade it will convert my 12.04 to 13.10 or something - as newer distribution releases do exist. I might be totally wrong here, so correct me if this is not the case. Adding the ppa does not exclude the primary sources ?? Or dist-upgrade does not change my 12.04 to something else ? / Mika |

again I don't Kubuntu so I don't know how they do things per se so I would suggest asking on Kubuntu's forum just to be comfortable
this should explain why you would use dist-upgrade instead of just upgrade http://askubuntu.com/questions/194651/w ... st-upgrade, as the ppa's you're set to use will be 12.04 (correct?0 you won't be upgraded to a newer version, if you Google you should find confirmation to this |
