Hello,

is there a convenient way enter the same company info, address, phone numbers, fax numbers, website data for 10-15 people that work in the same company?

... or, Is there a way to create a business entry and then associate the people with it?

Thanks,

Can you give more specific cases? Are you trying to do this in KAddressbook?

Yes, last week at work i entered a new contract, George from Advantech, in KAddressBook.

I entered all his contact info. He said Dave, also from advantech, actually same building as George, would be able to explain LVDS differences between the two motherboards.

I entered Daves info, but 99% was same as George's info, but I had to copy and paste every single field one by one.

Later, Dave put me in touch with Harold, who knows more about HDMI converters.

I entered Harold into the address book too. And I had to do the same boring steps of flipping screens back and forth, copy&paste every single field one by one.

My problem is that, in business environment this gets repeated over and over. It would be nice if some told me how to just tell KAddressBook that a selected few contacts work for the same company and have same street address, same phone number (not same extensions), same fax number, same web site, same category, and so on.

Or if it could fill-as-you-type fron data I have already enteted for other contacts.

Later I realised Advantech motherboards are not going to work for me. I started contacting Intel.

I'm not sure this is possible from the GUI, perhaps using "kabcclient" in scripted form, but again I haven't yet found myself with such a need. Best would be to file a wishlist report against kaddressbook in bugs.kde.org.

Hmmm,
kabcclient has a --merge option but it doesn't explain (nor I could find any examples) how to use it.

How do you choose to which entry (record/contact/person) you want to update the info?
