Why is kmail joined to the wallet? It is not an option, it is a REQUIREMENT !! ?? I thought that the whole concept of open-source, linux, KDE, was flexibility, choice, freedom.
I have been using KDE with openSUSE since openSUSE 10. The best thing about KDE for "me" migrating from windows was the KDEPIM with the "categories" so I could have 1 addressbook. I was able to define my relationships with every contact in said addressbook via simply adding a "categorie" to my KDEPIM addressbook. It was amazing the "categorie" was available to all aspects of the KDEPIM. Then the KDEPIM was upgraded. For several years I had to hack every openSUSE/KDEPIM upgrade so that I could run older versions of KDEPIM with multiple openSUSES/KDEPIM repositories to keep the "categories". Can you image how excited I was to discover that openSUSE 13.1 & KDE 4.11.5 had returned the "categoties"? YAH!! I upgraded all our computers of which only two use Kmail. as always the first thing I did is turn OFF the wallet. I have no need for the wallet. But for some strange unknown reason, some programer whom I'm sure is an amazing person, decided to "JOIN" the kmail to the wallet. I know, we all occasionally come up with a really cool idea, that turns out to be kind of stupid and sucks. To make thing more dependable and understandable to end users. why, would we think the answer would be to take as many complex system applications and join them all together creating dependencies, bottlenecks, confusion, when there is no clear specific reason to do so? Looking forward to the wallet becoming an option for the 3 people who want it. I have no idea as to where else to express my thoughts. This is not a "bug", it is a systems programmers choice that had to be approved and singed of on at several levels to make it into a distribution. Ken KDE, Kmail 4.11.5 openSUSE 13.1 |

If you have issues with KDE PIM, please open specific threads and we'll do our best to see how they can be handled. While sometimes software functionality (or lack thereof) is frustrating, it's never a good idea to post a rant: leaves bad blood in the poster, in whoever reads, and in the community in general.
I would in fact recommend to take a look at the forum rules and KDE's code of conduct for suggestions on how to have a more productive discussion. That said, you may be interested in knowing that kwallet is gaining a PAM module (not part of the 4.13 release, but hopefully released in parallel separately) meaning that extra passwords and so on will no longer be required (like GNOME's gnome-keyring does).
