Hi,
I have KMail 4.12.4 and I've noticed that the "on-demand download" of message bodies doesn't work that great (sometimes takes eons to download a simple message). I see in the "Folder Properties -> Retrieval" there's an option to automatically download the message bodies immediately, but there's no place where I can specify how old messages I want to automatically download. This email account has over 5 GB of emails stored in it and I sure as hell don't want to download all of the ancient emails I have. Secondly, when using thread display in the Message pane, even though I aggregate by "Current Activity, Threaded" and sort the "Top Message" to be "Most Recent" one, it's still not the most recent one - it's the first one that started the email chain. Any way to fix this? Cheers |

I seem to recall that the latter issue may be a bug, but I have no idea if it's present in more recent versions or not. For the former, if you are not in disconnected mode (i.e. KMail doesn't download all the mail in advance once and caches it), the retrieval options for the message body only apply if you actually request the message, that is if you want to read it, otherwise mail checks etc, only get the essential parts.

Well I know that, that's what I'd like to change. Is there a way to tell KMail "download all of the emails in their entirety that were received in the past 30 days, and for others only if I request it"? Such option exists in Thunderbird, for example. And yes, there is a bug for that aggregation issue, but seems to be left untouched for several years. I can't find a link right now because it's not saved anywhere in my profile even though I commented on it (nor did I receive any email... strange). |

I don't think this is implemented yet, and IMO this is something for the IMAP code rather than KMail itself. You may want to file a wishlist bug report in bugs.kde.org.
