I'm Thinking, But Nothing's Happening!

Forgive me if this is heresy, but I've installed the Kontact PIM suite on my Linux Mint 17 MATE desktop. It seems to work fine, at least the KMail part of it. When I start the address book or organizer everything looks fine also. I can click on NEW to create a new contact or calendar entry or task, etc., and everything works as it should. But when I click OK, the window just disappears as if it's working normally and saving my new contact or whatever. But nothing happens, there is no new contact or calendar entry or task.

There's no error message, but my new contact just disappears into the bit bucket somewhere. I've searched online quite a lot and found many discussions about permissions and running processes of one sort or the other. But they ALL started with an error message when trying to save a new contact or calendar entry. Since I have no error, I'm stuck.

Please be gentle, I'm an almost complete noob with Linux and certainly with this PIM suite. But it's absolutely the best PIM suite out there that I could find, so I really want to use it. I'd just prefer to keep my current desktop. Thanks for any ideas you might have....

Did you create a new address book or contact collection? In the KOrganizer window, the lower left pane lists your calendars. Is nothing there?
Likewise in KAddressbook, do you get any address book listed in the "Address books" pane?

Let me ask a dummy question, but that does happen to me from time to time - are the calendar and the addressbook checkboxes actually checked.

For some reason, for me, they usually were not.

Thank you Thank you! That was exactly the problem. I did not even realize that was a checkbox next to "Personal Calendar" and next to "Personal Contacts" - I'm afraid it's either not very intuitive or I'm not very bright. But putting a check in the boxes immediately caused all of my test contact and calendar entries to appear as if by magic!

Hopefully some other beginner might find this solution and save themselves some frustration. But for now I think I'm good to go, and again I thank everyone for the responses!

Glad to be of assistance.

Can you mark the topic as solved?
