Hello everybody,
yesterday I upgraded to ubuntu 14.04, this includes kontact 4.13.3. Unkluckily, auto completion of email addresses still does not work, as it didnt with ubuntu 12.04. All my contacts are cardDAV ones - can this cause problems? - But it does not work with locally stored messages. Any hints will be greatly appreciated. Wolf |

Just for a starter I assume you have "desktop search" switched on via System Settings?

Hi sinclair,
thanks for your hint. As I dont have the kde environment installed (ubuntu-unity), I additionally installed the "systemsettings" package. Hopefully that's what you are referring to? - But I couldnt find the "desktop search" settings. - Where do I have to look for them. Wolf |

Well I am not sure what you need out of the kdepim dependencies to get the baloo (replaced nepomuk) indexing running - and as I understand it that is what makes the autocompletion work.
Though I admit I am not sure - in earlier versions this was tied the indexing system of desktop search since 4.13.x I am not sure of the connections |

You may find some ideas here even if the thread is about removing indexing, not getting it running:

Hi sinclair,
thanks for pointing me into the right direction. I found that the nepomuk file indexer was replaced by baloo. So I installed baloo - and everything is fine. NB: In fact, baloo eats up lots of cpu capacity - many people complained about that. But - hopefully not only on my machine - that's only for a few minutes, till the job is done. So some folks might want to wait a bit instead of immediately remove baloo. Cheers, Wolf |
