Hi everybody,
The "KMail Folders" contains all my e-mails, but I'm unable to add new folders to it, the menu item 'Folder' | 'Add folder...' is disabled. But I can add folders to already existing folders. What strikes me odd is that I also have a "Local Folders" which is bascially empty except for inbox, outbox etc. entries. In that folder I'm able to add new folders. So I wonder what's the difference between these two folders? Why do I have these two folders? Could it be from various migrations to newer KMail versions over the years? So can somebody shed some light on these? Thanks Kind regards Peter Kubuntu 14.04, KDE 4.14.2, KMail 4.14.2 |

Hello,
Maybe you have several local mailboxes configured. Look at Configuration > Configure KMail > Accounts. There you will likely find several local accounts. This could come from past migrations between KMail versions. Search the option dialog of the KMail Folder resource for a "read-only" checkbox. If there is none or it is not checked, migrate your data to a "maildir" account (it should support creating new folders). Louis |

Hello.
I have the same problem. Could you please give step by step instructions on how to "migrate your data to a 'maildir' account" in KMail? I had a hard enough time getting my email set up as it is, and I still don't know what I'm doing. |

Hello,
That's an old post. I think I had had the same problem back then, and could answer the question. But I forgot how... If you're worried about loosing your configuration, there is a function to export it to a ZIP file (under the Tools menu, then File > Export). Try to restore it in an empty user account first, before modifying anything (I'm not 100% sure it works well). Sorry, Louis |

The export function can be considered reliable from the recently released Applications 15.12 onwards.
