Kmail Not Using Correct SMTP Server

Fri Dec 12, 2014 8:42 pm
Does Kmail permit only one outgoing server for all accounts?

Newby here! Apologies if this question is too basic or mis-located. :< I'm new to Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) and KMail (Kontact 4.13.3) as of yesterday. My previous OS/email client exposure has been limited to MS products. Please let me know if this is the proper venue for someone with my limited knowledge to post for help, and kindly direct me elsewhere if appropriate.

I set up Kmail with two unrelated IMAP accounts (different servers). It seemed as if the first account I added automatically included its corresponding SMTP server, but the second one did not. I tried to send an email to and from the second address (meaning I was sending it to myself from myself) and got this error: “abc@123.xx is not allow to send to recipient abc@123.xx.”

QUESTIONS:
(1) How do I ensure replies to emails are sent via their respective SMTP servers instead of all accounts using one default server?
(2) Must I add identities to accomplish routing outgoing emails to their respective servers?

Thanks for your time.

You are on the right path. You need to add the second smtp server manually (I think, it may have been added) and then create Identities using the correct accounts for receiving/sending mail
