Hello!
I am using the latest KDE 4.14.5 with plasma 5.2 as recommended. Now every single Kontact application shows a main menu below the windows decoration... Just kmail doesn't. SO I confidently pressed CTRL+M to show the menu again but I can't get it back. It has always been there - now it is gone. Also I changed all hotkeys back to default as for the toolbars... Since I do not know how to reach all functions without menu I really need help here. Any ideas anyone? thx a lot, piedro As it turns out this happens only within Kontact - calling Kmail as single application let's me show the menu but it doesn't stick when Kmail is used with Kontact... |

try:
in file ~/.kde[4]/share/config/kmail2rc - in section "[Main Window]" delete the line "MenuBar=Disabled" - in section "[General]" delete the line "ShowMenuBar=false" no idea why 2 lines are being used Kmail should be closed and you should make a backup |

"- in section "[Main Window]" delete the line "MenuBar=Disabled" "
This doesn't exist. in the [General] section there is only this: SystemTrayEnabled=true SystemTrayPolicy=ShowAlways SystemTrayShowUnread=false first-start=false (well apart from "Recent Addresses") The line you mentioned doesn't exist. But I checked the file "kontactrc" and there I found a lot of entries with "Menubar=disabled" - deleted them all - works like a charm.... BTW, I had to change Kate's letters per line limit to 8192... is there any disadvantage in leaving it that high? Thank you very much for your quick help, cheers, piedro |

I have exactly the same problem in Kmail after Debian testing rolled in Plasma 5. No matter what I do - I can't see menu in it. There used to be appmenu-qt installed, and there was a setting in KDE 4 to show menu on top of the screen instead of in the application. I've heard it's broken in Plasma 5, so I uninstalled appmenu-qt, and all applications are now showing the menu normally, but Kmail doesn't.
I removed MenuBar=Disabled from kmail2rc and kontactrc but it didn't help. |

OK, I solved it by moving out kmail2rc, running Kmail without it (at that point the menu was still missing), then quitting, and moving kmail2rc back and running Kmail again. That brought the menu back. No idea why it worked

Ah, and for the reference, default shortcut to toggle the menu in Kmail (Ctrl + M) worked for me. But I couldn't see it without going into the menu first
