Kmail Won't Retrieve Full Messages

Thu Feb 19, 2015 2:52 am
Hello,

I have repeatedly set all my IMAP accounts to "always retrieve full messages" in order to move the emails to local folders. However, every time I close and reopen Kmail (under Kontact 4.13.3), the folder settings have reverted back to "retrieve message bodies on demand (keep message bodies locally for 60 minutes)." The emails in this case typically consist of headers with empty bodies. This requires that I manually check and wait while all the accounts attempt to fully download all the emails.

This is how I set the accounts to retrieve full messages:
(1) Go to top level folder for each account and right click
(2) Folder Properties
(3) Retrieval
(4) Always retrieve full messages
(5) OK

What am I doing wrong?

PS: I found the following related thread from a few years ago but don't think it resolves the issue: viewtopic.php?f=215&t=98177&p=209488&hilit=retrieve+full+messages#p209488

Thanks,
Ryan 8)

Can you restart Akonadi on the command line ("akonadictl restart") and see whether you sync if there is any output printed? My guess is that something goes wrong somewhere in the chain.

Open Settings -> Configure KMail -> Accounts -> select your IMAP account -> Modify -> check "Download all messages for offline use"

This should work. The top-level folder properties get probably overridden on every sync, that's why it never worked for you.

Hi progdan,

Thanks for responding. I just tried your suggestion but once I get to "Modify," there is no option for "Download all messages for offline use."

I have 4 options:
1) General (I have "Enable interval checking / 5 mins" selected.)
2) Advanced
3) Filtering
4) Folder Archive

Is it possible that Kontact did not download correctly from the Ubuntu repository so I'm missing components? I am very new to Kontact and Linux/Ubuntu and would not know how to correct this. suggestions?

Thanks much,
ryanl

einar,

Thanks for replying. I tried the terminal command restart but don't see any output. Where would I see it?

FYI: After restarting the terminal command, I still did not have the download all messages for offline use that progdan mentioned.

Thanks,
ryanl
