I have a number of problems relating to Kontact/Kmail that have started in the last few months.

1.
On occasions if I try and delete a message from the "Message List" the message is not removed from the list. I have to restart Kontact/Kmail.

2.
On occasions if I "Check Mail" I can see the progress bar reporting progress. Yet no new messages appear in the "Message List". To see the new messages I have to restart Kontact/Mail

3.
Sometimes it's not sufficient to restart Kontact/Mail I have to logoff and then logon.

Can someone give me some guidance of how I can get Kontact/Kmail working normally.

Which version of Kontact are you using?

I'm using Kontact Version 4.10.5

On 28th March 2015

1.
I backed up my home directory

2.
deleted everything in my home directory

3.
manually configured kontact in my home directory to give me a fresh start

4.
migrated back into the newly created Mail directory my previous messages

Today, I have the problem again. So is it

a)
a rogue message upsetting kontact

b)
or kontact is broken and I need to reinstall

c)
or kde is broken and I need to reinstall

This problem, or at least part of it, should be fixed in more recent Kontact version. What is your distribution? 4.10 now has a few years under its belt...

I suspected as much. I'm using Slackware 14.1. There doesn't appear to be an outlook on when the next kde upgrade will be.

Though I was wondering whether it could be to do with the number of messages I have in my system, at the moment just a shade less than 20,000.

As a temporary measure I've swung over to Thunderbird using it's mbox method of storing messages. I would have much preferred Maildir.

Thanks

Alex
