another (mozilla-nss) crypto backend for kmail?

Hi all!
I have an issue with gpgsm https://bugs.gnupg.org/gnupg/issue2033, so I can't use kmail for my SMIME encrypted email.
Is there a way to use another crypto backend in kmail, for example mozilla-nss, because Mozilla Thunderbird en(de)crypts emails correctly?

No alternative backends are present (or planned) at the moment, unfortunately.
