I have set KMail to move messages to its own account trash folder but it's insisting on moving messages to Local Folder/Trash when I delete a message.

I assume you set this through the account configuration settings and/or the identity management settings?

Trash folder is set in Account settings and not in identity settings. That's what I have done.

Please file a bug at bugs.kde.org detailing the exact way to reproduce this issue.
