Hi,
Several of the mailing lists I am subscribed aren't allowing to me post directly to the lists. Messages are being held for moderation and I get following error.
Two of the problematic ones are as follows. Thanks. |

Sorry if I misunderstand you, but KNode is a "Usenet News" reader (NNTP), not an EMail application.
Try KMail instead... |

KNode is a KDE-application to access Usenet newsgroups and mailing lists. - https://www.kde.org/applications/internet/knode/ |

Still it's mainly a Usenet news reader. I never used it to access mailinglists... You can do that with an EMail application just fine, no? KMail even has explicit support for mailinglists. Additionally, KNode is basically unmaintained since years AIUI, and has been dropped in the KF5 port of KDEPIM. Anyway, have a look here, maybe it helps you: http://wiki.list.org/DOC/What%20does%20"message%20has%20implicit%20destination"%20mean%3F |

You can use it to access MLs via gmane.org. But as it was said, it was removed from PIM in the KF5 port (it even still relied on Qt3Support classes).

I have sort of been moving away from using email for mailing list. It is very hard to manage number of emails that come through mailing lists. I have to take action (read, reply, delete, etc.) on them. Volume of emails from mailing list also starts screwing up with mail results. I can certainly manage it by writing SIEVE rules to delete read emails that have been in my inbox for more than 30 days. KNode looked like a good option to manage mailing lists. Sadly there's no maintainer. Thanks for the comments. |

No you cannot do this with an email client just fine, it's not even close and barely deserves me even arguing with you about it. If you have never used Gmane in a usenet client you have no clue. Now there is NO usenet reader whatsoever for the KF5 environment. Kontact as opposed to plain Kmail was useful in the fact that one could do both much like they can in Thunderbird. Now a major reason to use Kontact has vanished from the earth. Of course I have been waiting on Kontact since 2002 to become mature, sigh........ |

Given the current workforce on PIM (very few developers) and a huge codebase, there was no other option at their disposal (also because no one from "outside" showed interest in maintaining KNode).

You are right, I have no clue. I never used KNode with mailinglists, and I only ever used GMane in a web browser.
Feel free to take over KNode's maintainership and port it to KF5 (or find somebody who does)... |

A quick Google produced an application easily downloadable in Kubuntu: SABnzbd+ http://sabnzbd.org/. You can install in 15.10 via a PPA found here: https://launchpad.net/~jcfp/+archive/ubuntu/ppa. Further, by opening regular Muon and searching Usenet lots more results show up that are one-click installs for Kubuntu. In the spirit of diligence, I also searched getdeb.net and found RSSOwl, whereby a cursory search of their FAQ produced an add-on for reading Usenet newsgroups https://github.com/rssowl/RSSOwl/wiki/FAQ#item_11ba.
BTW - I think it's worth mentioning that while KNode is nice, from Kontact's perspective nowhere have I ever seen a PIM Suite be considered incomplete if it did not have a Usenet reader included...
As per usual in the open source world, if your heart is really tied to KNode, and to expand on the above comment, generally there are three options: (1) Become the project's maintainer, thereby ensuring the longevity and health of the project; (2) Sponsor someone to do so, or (3) Fork the project and make it your own creation. Opportunity to contribute abounds! And if that is not your thing, I hope I have shown in just a few minutes that, as is almost always the case with open source software, there are likely other options. |

I see this kind of response far too often. Not all of us are programmers... most of us are not wealthy enough to pay a programmer, nor do many people have friends who could take over such a project. I'm not being negative and maybe I should keep quite, but responses such as these are a huge turn off to me. I understand why Knode was dropped and I had been involved in the decision making process I too would have no doubt agreed it be dropped, but passing the buck to the user and/or trying to make them feel responsible in some way is cheesy and uncalled for. I simply stopped using PIM when it lost Knode. I too like to use an integrated package and when I switched to Thunderbird for Usenet I decided to adopt it for email and calendar use too. I had stopped Thunderbird years ago when I switched to KDE and started using the PIM suite. Good luck with PIM project! I hope that someday KDE will offer an integrated Usenet client again. |
