If you have all keys already stored with KGPG, it's really easy to handle GPG in KMail. In fact, it's IMO much easier than in Thunderbird.

As a prerequisite you need to have your keys already available in GPG. Then you configure your identities in Configure KMail > Identities and then, by editing each identity, you can associate a signing and encryption key by going to the "Cryptography" tab. If you want to sign all outgoing messages, you need to tick "Sign messages automatically". Additional options can be handled in Configure KMail > Security > Composing.
