Now that kmail2 is running again after upgrading to kubuntu 14.04, I have a few questions. Note that I was using kmail previously.
1. In Settings, Configure kMail, Accounts, Receiving, the first account is Local Folders, and it points to my old kmail directory (.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail). This is not where new messages are stored; in any case, access is read-only. Where does kmail2 store the messages? Can I safely remove my old kmail directory, or does kmail2 access it every time? The reason is that I do not like if the data is scattered over several directories. 2. At first, I was unable to send messages. They'd get stuck in the outbox folder and sending failed. I checked Accounts, Sending, and did not see any use for the default account, as all information was in the account that I added. It connects to my email provider. This did solve the problem. Should I have kept the local account? It does not look like I lost anything. 3. I would like to import a text file message, mymsg.mbox, in old kmail format. I don't find how to do this in KMailCVT (Import Messages). In fact, I cannot find any option that allows me to type in the import box. Only the browse icon works, and that points to my mail folders. Can I import standalone text messages? Thanks in advance. |

It would break things if you deleted it. So I would advise to avoid doing so behind KMail's back. You need at least one local folders resource set up for KMail to work correctly.
Your change sounds harmless to me in this case.
If they are in the mbox format, you should be able to. Did you try to point the importer to a single mail in mbox format?

I did figure out the import. Thanks.
So, I need the local receive directory, but it does not contain any new incoming messages nor any new messages that I am moving into an old folder. Where do they go then? Are they hidden in some database that can only be accessed through the appropriate query tool? |

No messages are stored in the database (the database doesn't hold any objects > 4K in size by default). Can you check the folder for hidden subdirectories?
