I am about to replace my mobile phone, it looks like this will be a Windows Mobile device, possibly Symbian.

I will need to sync my Kontact mail, contacts, calendar and tasks with it. The Kontact homepage mentions KitchenSync and I have also seen SynCE on SourceForge, the latter specifically works with Windows Mobile devices.

Has anyone got experience or advice on either of them and how well they work?

Thanks

Nick

Hi,

I've been trying to do just the same for some time now... it isn't that easy.. however today I found a solution to sync my Contacts with my mobile - which is a Nokia E51. It's not the best solution but it's working for me.

I didn't realy try to sync calendar, notes and email... right now only contacts were important for me.

I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.2 beta 2 packages. Phone is a Nokia E51 and I'm using Bluetooth to sync... The application which does the syncing is Kitchensync-opensync from KDE 3.5.

For those who want to try it as well, follow these steps...

1. download these two packages and install them
http://opensync.gforge.punktart.de/repo ... 1_i386.deb

http://opensync.gforge.punktart.de/repo ... 1_i386.deb

2. also install the gnome bluetooth packages from the ubuntu repositories (I think thats bluez-gonme). I just needed this to be able to pair my Eee with my mobile.

When it's installed start bluetooth-applet and pair computer and phone.

3. start kitchensync

here are some screenshots showing the settings I've used:
http://imagebin.ca/view/FpBlER.html
http://imagebin.ca/view/MVWKEu1.html
http://imagebin.ca/view/aWg2Bh.html

The image that shows the main windows contains two sync groups... for contacts only the first group (called "bn" is important).

I think that's all... Ahh before syncing make sure you've got a backup of everything and close Kontact as well as other PIM applications (I'm not sure if that really needed though)

And if you're not sure which settings to use for your mobile look at this page:
http://de.opensuse.org/OpenSync/SyncML-OBEX-Client.

Maybe it can help you..

I'm looking forward to your replies and suggestions.

bye,
alex

might be helpful, although it is in german and KDE 3.5 based.
I am currently syncing via an egroupware installation, seems to be the best way to do this. Most symbian devices are working with egroupware and korganizer and kaddressbook are native clients.

A better solution would be appreciated :).

AFAIK, OpenSync support in KDEPIM 4.2 is currently disabled because it needs a yet-unreleased version of OpenSync (0.40), which won't be out in time.

Hi Widux,
What solution would that be?

I find that syncing is much too troublesome and so I use a combination of regular imports to my phone. There is also an ical importer program called iCalParse for Windows Mobile that I've found very useful (that handles my calendar and todo list). For email I simply use IMAP. Haven't worked out a solution for notes yet.
