I am trying to configure Kontact and Kmail with Gmail. I have allowed "less secure apps" and enabed IMAP through Gmail settings. Problem I am having is simple entry of my Gmail account password in the Kontact and Kmail account configuration. There is no "show password" flag, so I cannot tell what the keystrokes are showing, however, in both applications when trying to set up a new account ie.

Account Information

Account Name: 00000 11111
IMAP Server: imap.gmail.com
Username: someone@gmail.com

PASSWORD

This is where the trouble starts

When I try to enter the password, three dots show up for every key stroke in the text box.

If I say typed in:

Password: abc it would show up in the text box as ......... rather than ...

This is a brand new, fresh out of the box install of Kubuntu 15.10. Only changes I have made is to do an update after install and have not had this problem with any other password requests in other applications. This was a complete clean install. No dual boot. Wiped everthing before I installed Kubuntu.

Any ideas. I'm new with this Kde environment and pretty new to Linux so go easy.

Thanks

A self reply from original poster......

I have since been able to create an email account in Kontact and Kmail, however, I was able to accomplish this was by:

entering my email account password BEFORE entering my username (email address). This allowed Kontact to accept the password. I had tried entering my username into the account configuration dialogue and then pasting my password into the box with no success. Still showed up as a three for one keystroke addition. ie three dots for every letter in the password.

Anyway I do have two emails configured in Kontact. Both by entering a password prior to entering the username (email address) In case it matters both are Gmail accounts.

I will keep fiddling with the thing and try to narrow done the event and report back.

As I said, be gentle with recommendations, I am new. Every glitch and solution is a research project. Speak very slow and in complete sentences.

Thanks!!

Can you check in System Settings (I think it's under the user information control panel) whether you set one or 3 dots to show when inputting the passwords? Do you have similar issues with other KDE applications that require passwords?
