All my email is turning up as notes.
This (I assume) is why Notes ("akonadi_notes_agent") is using nearly a gigbyte (992,724k) of RAM, all the time! I can't see anywhere to switch this off, or where I might've turned it on. Can anyone tell me how to stop this? Even if I kill the agent instance it gets automatically restarted and within less than a minute takes up the same amount of memory. This is Kontact 4.14.10 under Fedora 22. ![]() |

Then you probably added a notes (akonotes) resource that points to your mail folder. Remove it again in akonadiconsole, or in "kcmshell4 akonadi".
You should be able to delete it in akonadiconsole too. But I don't have such a problem here, so maybe that notes resource containing all your emails is the culprit. I don't think the notes agent is designed for ten thousands of "notes"... ![]() |

Thanks for that.
What would an unwanted one of those look like. I have several mailboxes I'm accessing with POP3. I do have a "Local Folders" resource in KMail, but mail from my mailboxes is redirected into various local folders. If I delete the "local folders" resource will all of the folders disappear? I had a second "Local Folders" resource. I deleted that, but it only freed 10Mb of memory. I have a "Local Notes" resource too, it says it's directory is /~/.local/share//notes/VI0Xp2aiJV , but that doesn't exist. I would like to use Notes, so I need this, don't I? |

The name does not matter. But those are probably your mail resources. You probably have some Akonotes resource (i.e. one with a "notes" icon) that points to one of your mail folders on your hard disk. This is what you need to remove. If you're in doubt, please post a list of all akonadi* files in ~/.kde/share/config/ that contains "notes" in the name, and their content. I.e. those like akonadi_akonotes_resource_0rc. Note that removing a resource does not delete the data it is pointing to.
You need at least *one* working Akonotes resource, yes. If the corresponding directory doesn't exist, create it. On some systems this seems to not happen automatically and causes problems. Btw, it should probably be ~/.local/share/notes/VI0Xp2aiJV ... |

Y'are a star, thank you!
![]() Just removing one local notes resource seems to have done the trick. The notes agent is down to a mere 23Mb Kontact itself still consumes 200Mb, but that's another story whose ending I'm not sure of. Thanx again |

Well, good to hear that I could help. ![]() Btw, I filed a bug report about akonotes resources using ~/.local/share/local-mail/ (i.e. the standard mail folder) by default, which might be the reason for this problem occuring in the first place: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339169 It has been "fixed", but it still doesn't seem to work (at least not always). Unfortunately KDEPIM4 is not maintained any more, I haven't verified whether this still happens in KDEPIM5 yet though.
That sounds normal, especially with KMail embedded into Kontact. But you can use the single applications (KNotes e.g.) without Kontact or KMail running at the same time. |

Apparently this might still happen, according to reports I've seen on IRC (just one case so far).
