Hi,
I hope this is the correct forum, if not, sorry! My question is pretty basic: I'm trying to migrate from the kmail of kubuntu 10.04 (Edit: version number 1.13.5) to the current kmail in kubuntu 15.10 (5.0.2). I used ubuntu for a couple of years, but I'm not firm in kde and I'm not able to to migrate the emails or the identities(from a backup of the old home partition), neither the import function nor copying does work. And I did not find a step by step tutorial how the migration should work. So at the moment I'm really frustrated. Maybe you can give me tips how to do it or point me in the direction of working tutorials. Thank you in advance! |

That's a very old version, and I'm not sure if the export / import functions at the time were fully functional, and really a lot did change since then. Did anything happen when you started the new version of KMail?
If not the best way would be to update to an itermediate distribution first (like 14.04), run the mail import, then complete the upgrade.

Thank you for the answer!
I first tried to copy the old files (mails/configs) in the old places, there was no reaction. After that I used the import for kmail folders and mails. It imported the folders, but not the mails. my last try was to copy the mail folders to the folder local-mail,because I realised, that this kmail seems to use that folder as its place to store mails. Again kmail showed the folders, but not the mails.
Would it be possible to rum the import with an 14.04 live system? |

Technically yes if you have your real home directory mounted as /home in the live system. I've never tried, though.

Just remembered, that I never came back to this discussion. Sorry for the bad manners! I tried it with a 14.04 live system, but imported the mails on the temporary home partition and later copied them to the newly installed system. After that kmail did show the mails. Now my system mostly works (except that knotes can't import/show the old ics file...) So thank you very much for your help! |
