When starting Kontact via konsole this happens:
Failed to open external payload: "~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data/16/10116_r2" "No such file or directory" Kontact starts nevertheless. I get several lines like the above while starting. Which I do not understand at all because I am using a system wide mysql (mariadb) server with akonadi. Also kontact reliably segfaults when I resize the window. This is on the latest "stable" KDE on Arch. So my questions are: Why is akonadi looking for these folders and why aren't they there and what difference does it make? Btw: any documentation somewhere? How to avoid the segfaults on resizing (also the side panel is cut in half vertically and takes the normal space but the symbols for "mail" calendar" and so forth are only shown in half. This could be remedied in the past with a quick resize window followed by maximise windows - but now this procedure segfaults). |

Items over a certain size (4KiB by default) are not cached in the database itself, but in ~/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data/ (for performance reasons). You can run "akonadictl fsck" to fix the apparently corrupted cache. |

Thank you very much, there has been a lot cleanup after I've done the "akonadictl fsck"... so I guess this was an important step...
Now this message is about the rest of problems (?), it seems all the virtual folders for searching get reported here and two items are "dirty"... What does this mean? Is there documentation on these messages? (Even "man akonadictl" gives no references...)
thx for your help, piedro |

You mean Kontact crashing when resizing the window and the icons only shown in half? That's rather unrelated to Akonadi...
I don't know.
Probably not. This is debug output. You can probably just ignore it, doesn't really look like it would be a problem. |

No, that is a misunderstanding - I was writing about the problems mentioned in the debug output. I get that Kontact crashing with segfaults is probably plasma or kwin related (as is the messed up display of symbols and window panels)... Sad there is no reference to debug messages - seems not useful if noone can read them... thx, piedro |

Debug messages are only meant to be read by the developers. A user shouldn't have to care about them. |

Come on! You cannot really believe that this is appropriate in this case...
A user shouldn't have to run "akonadictl fsck" also... a user shouldn't have to crawl through forums, bug reports and reddit to get things running properly... so if stuff doesn't work at least the error messages should be helpful! Since akonadi has never worked flawlessly (without error messages) for the last 4 years the messages should be quite explicit and detailed by now... But I suspect that this discussion does not lead to any solution, devs won't read it anyways... so I hope that you are right and the debug messages are meaningless. thx for helping, p. |
