I'm using Kontact 4.13.0.7 and on the main toolbar I have added the button "archive." At the moment when I click it nothing happens. What I want to have happen is for the selected message to be moved to my folder named "Archive" when I click that button.
Is this even possible? |

Can you describe in more detail how you added that button to the toolbar?

I went to Settings > Configure toolbars and selected "Main Toolbar <kmmainwin>" in the drop down menu. I just discovered the button didn't survive my restart of the program. I would like to add it again, or put something up there to automatically move emails into my archive folder.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Did you add an "Archive" button from the toolbar configuration?

Next question: did you configure archiving for your accounts?

I'm not sure. How do you do that? When I click "Configure automatic archiving" in the Settings menu nothing happens. (For that matter when I click for the Handbook nothing happens either.) Oh, wait... I went to "Configure Kmail" and under "Accounts" and then "Modify" I saw a place to enable archive, but it only gives me options to archive into local folders. I want to archive into the remote folder. I was not clear about that last bit before, sorry.

Automating archiving (the one from the settings menu) will not do what you think it does (it compresses messges locally).
As for the other, by "remote folders" you mean IMAP folders? They show up fine here when I checked archive options (KMail close to 16.04 status).

Ah, I see about the archives you are talking about. But yes, like in Thunderbird I want a dedicated button to archive into my IMAP's archive folder. I don't want to have to go through the hassle of moving the messages each time. It's a pain in the **** and I'm looking for a way around it.

Did you try configuring archiving and see if the action works?

I don't know what you're talking about, sorry. I checked the handbook and it says nothing about archiving.

I mean enable archiving for one account (in the configuration page) and then see if the button you added to the toolbar does something.

You know, thanks for taking the time but I finally figured out what was going wrong with my Thunderbird so I'm going back to it. That means I'm setting Kmail aside for now.
Peace, Mac
