Do you have email indexing enabled? Also, you need a minimum of 3 characters for completion to work (I assume you already tried, but it's worth pointing out).

Hi, i dont know where indexing is but i assume its on as i have seen it work with both the dropdown and auto but only very rarely so it does work just not very often. It really seems random , sometimes i can hit just "j" (yes iv seen it work on just 1 letter) and it drops down the list then by just rubbing that out and typing "jac" again it does not drop the list at all.

heres a quick vid to show whats happening. Its quite hard to capture as it seems random but you can see the first time i typed "use" it failed to auto complete but after rubbing that out it then worked.

EDIT:- removed

It's been spotty for me, but at least my version of Kontact completes contacts reliably. You may also want to check for the completion order in KMail preferences.

Does it work if you type one letter, erase it (backspace), and type some letters again ?

yes it does exactly that (write one letter, rub out, write it again) but ONLY index's from my recent address list , it will not index my personal contacts at all.

It's a KDE bug : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354400
It's fixed in latest kde framework.

it will however list all my personal contacts if i press the "select" button so i can use that but i know it should auto fill from my personal contacts regardless.

EDIT:- hmm just reading through your link , a lot of info there , i hope there is a fix or update method that i can understand. I shall keep reading, thx.

well looks like its been this way for over 2 years and no fix. Some say they found a fix and then a little further down the thread they say they spoke to soon. well wonderful , prob a related bug to the fact i cant allow HTML/remote content from individual contacts because it is not indexing my address book properly.

I read all through it and tried a couple of things like libkf5akonadisearch-bin but did not work.

You have to wait for your distribution upgrade, I think.
I had to use Opensuse Tumbleweed to get it fixed.

wait yea but years na, this is what they are saying https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354400

I think if kde cant get an email client 100% working for years then it may be time to move on.

Mint is not up to date with PIM packages, as far as I can tell. You may want to ask them for an upgrade, because as I said in another thread, the issue with contacts and HTML works for me (running off development code), so it's likely been fixed somewhere down the road.
