I use PIM plugin in the Clock & Calendar (I am not sure if this is the correct name) widget so that I can check my events easily. Since the widget is faster than KOrganizer or Kontact. Then when I want to add an event after finding that there are spare time in some day, a double-click on that small square of that day can open Kontact with calendar view and pop up a new event dialogue.
