I am using Kontact/Kmail 4.14.10 in KDE Plasma 5.8.3 on openSUSE Leap 42.2 (upgraded from 42.1).

Once again searching mails in Kmail doesn't work. Folders are marked as not yet indexed, indexing is activated (even new mails are not indexed - I would have expected only old mails from before upgrading not to be indexed).

As I had this issue before, I tried to remove baloorc and run aconadictl restart, what helped me in former installations.

This time, Akonadi can't be restarted by doing this, as it seems. The process is stuck, repeatidly producing this output:

Code: Select all
log_akonadicore: Invalid command, the world is going to end!
QIODevice::read (QLocalSocket): device not open
log_akonadicore: Socket error occurred: "QLocalSocket: Socket operation timed out"
Database "akonadi" opened using driver "QMYSQL"
log_akonadicore: Invalid command, the world is going to end!
QIODevice::read (QLocalSocket): device not open
log_akonadicore: Socket error occurred: "QLocalSocket: Socket operation timed out"
Database "akonadi" opened using driver "QMYSQL"
log_akonadicore: Recieved invalid command on NotificationBus "akonadi_indexing_agent-766859851"
log_akonadicore: Recieved invalid command on NotificationBus "akonadi_indexing_agent-766859851"
log_akonadicore: Invalid command, the world is going to end!
QIODevice::read (QLocalSocket): device not open

All I can do is ending this. baloorc anyhow is replaced immediately when trying to aconadictl restart.

Any suggestions what I could try?

Make sure you have baloo-pim installed, and not akonadi-search (which only works with Akonadi5).

PS: in case you don't want to use indexing, you don't need to have baloo-pim installed.
But make sure that akonadi-search is not installed in any case when using kdepim4/kmail4.

OTOH, you could also switch to kdepim5, which is included in Leap 42.2 and normally installed by default (but upgrades do not replace kdepim4 with kdepim5 yet).

Thank you so much, replacing akonadi-search by baloo-pim did the trick!
