Korganzer ? [Application Dumped]

Tue Jan 31, 2017 6:11 pm
Hi
I hope this is the correct place to post this.
I just tried to use KOrganizer (first time) Having filled in the details that I require,
and clicking on Ok or Apply all I get is a message 'Select a valid collection first.'
There is no other reference to 'collection' soI cannot get past this point.
1) What is a collection.
2) Where is one selected.
3) Why.

Reluctant to ditch it as too confusing an application, if someone could ex plane
where I am going wrong it would be much appreciated.

Collections are basically separate calendars.
You should see all available ones listed on the left with a checkbox in front to enable/disable them.

At least in some versions of KOrganizer no calendar is active by default unfortunately, you may need to manually enable the default one before you can create new events.

Thanks for the reply, and trying to help.
No calendar by default, try to add one and get a message to log in to server.
Any application that's as user hostile as this gets dumped, I have better things to do with the rest of my life.
If there is nothing better, then over to paper and pen i know how that works.

That should not happen.
What version are you using exactly?
You didn't tell.

try to add one and get a message to log in to server.

What?
If you try to add one, you should get several options.
Some are connections to a remote server (and that's probably one of the reasons why you even can have more than one calendar/collection).
But a local file should be there as well.

If not, your installation is "broken".

Nobody forces you to use korganizer, and there are other alternatives...
Sorry, but I don't really understand your reaction, especially as this is about free software.

I use KOrganizer, and it works well for me.

And as you can see in my screenshot, I have 3 collections/calendars.
One real one ("Persönlicher Kalender", "Personal Calendar" in english) that was there by default.
And two "virtual" ones, the "Geburtstage und Jahrestage" ("Birthdays and Anniversaries") that displays data from the addressbook and got added automatically too, and the "KDE Release Schedule" which is indeed a file on a remote server.

And I don't find it "user hostile" either.

But well, if you don't like it, use something else. That's fine.
Personally I don't care much whether you use this or that, I just tried to help you...
